What are the benefits to a Neuropsychological Assessment? What do they include?

1. Diagnostic Clarity & Detailed Cognitive Profiling

Differential diagnosis is crucial for appropriate treatment planning and intervention strategies. Neuropsychological assessments conducted by psychologists go beyond this, however, by providing you with  a detailed profile of your cognitive functions. These include your memory, attention, executive functions, language abilities, and visuospatial skills. This detailed assessment can help you pinpoint specific cognitive deficits associated with neuropsychological disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease, traumatic brain injury (TBI), stroke, and neurodevelopmental disorders (e.g., ADHD, autism spectrum disorder).

2. Accurate Diagnosis and Differential Diagnosis

Neuropsychological Assessments provide more accurate diagnoses of neuropsychological disorders by distinguishing between different conditions that can present with similar symptoms, such as the various major and minor neurocognitive disorders.

3. Baseline and Progress Monitoring

Once a Neuropsychological Assessment establishes a baseline of cognitive functioning, you have a mechanisms to monitor changes over time. This is crucial for tracking neuropsychological disease progression or recovery post-injury, both of which aid in adjusting treatment strategies and evaluating the effectiveness the interventions you and your other healthcare providers implement.

4. Tailored Treatment Planning

I use the insights we gain from your Neuropsychological Assessment to create a personalized set of detailed recommendations for you, from which your individualized treatment plan can stem, addressing specific cognitive deficits identified. This may involve accommodations at work or school, coping techniques, and therapeutic interventions aimed at improving daily functioning and your overall quality of life.

5. Identifying Cognitive Strengths and Weaknesses

When conducting your Neuropsychological Assessment, I will systematically evaluate your various cognitive domains such as memory, attention, executive functions, language abilities, and visuospatial skills. I will use these insights to identify your specific cognitive strengths and areas of growth.

6. Educational and Vocational Guidance

Results from Neuropsychological Assessments provide valuable information for educational accommodations, career counseling, and vocational rehabilitation. They can help you understand how your strengths can be leveraged and identify cognitive areas in which accommodations and additional support may be beneficial.

Good Faith Estimate

If you are not using insurance to pay for therapy, then you have the right to request a “Good Faith Estimate:” an approximation of how much, based on the symptoms and treatment goals you identify during our consultation, you can expect your non-emergency mental health services to cost. If your symptoms and treatment goals do not increase from what is described in this Good Faith Estimate, you attend therapy as initially agreed upon (e.g.: one weekly 60 minute therapy session), and you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, then you are permitted to dispute the bill. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
